Drop 'em Like It's Hot!

WELL HI! Happy Memorial Day yesterday!!! :D This last week was pretty great. Kind of lame but still Positive. :) haha! I'll just spill it to you now.

Diane. Pope. Precious daughter of God. I don't think I've talked a lot about her but she's a 59 year old lady who looks like she's 80 because she's a heavy HEAVY smoker. She's been on date for baptism for four different dates since March because she just can't quite. She's really sweet. And really poor. She get's a lot of help from the government and a few other sources. She's neighbor's with a member named Janis. Janis is recently returned to the church and is preparing to go to the temple. She's a sweet spunky old lady with a really rough past. She too is trying to quit smoking. Well she says she has but we're not entirely sure. She get's a lot of help from the government AND from the church. Anywho. Diane envy's how much support Janis gets because she's a member and Thinks it's ridiculous how just because she's not a member she doesn't get as much help. So when I came into the story about a month ago She was determined to lie to us about her smoking and get baptized anyways. We're not idiots. We could smell it fresh in the air when we would go over and the spirit was giving us red flags. Plus Janis had told us that Diane told her what her motives were. DRAMA! So we had a super intense/spiritual rebuking lesson about being worthy for baptism and got her to confess the next day. It was crazy. By this point Diane and Janis were really not getting along but Diane was back on date and we were going to help her come unto Christ. Because she seemed to have a sincere desire. Well. The two ladies were calling us claiming that the other was smoking and lying and acting like 14 year old girls. It was so frustrating. So Janis writes Diane a letter saying she needs a brake and we go to visit Diane and she is PEEVED. Because the brake was her idea but now Janis gets the credit. WOW. She was so upset and offended and couldn't believe that a member of the church would do this. We told her time after time that it had NOTHING to do with Janis. This was JESUS CHRIST'S CHURCH. Not Janis's. She didn't listen and dropped us the next day. We were so frustrated because we had done SO much for Diane. Pride.
So yeah. That really sucked. We had a hard time recuperating afterwords. She gave up eternal salvation for pride. Whatever.
But we had exchanges this week and I went out with my grandma Sister Roquemore!!! Crazy right? She's crazy! She just puts herself out there and talks to EVERYONE. It's awesome. She's a super great example for me and it was just what I needed.
Other great news. Roxy came to church!!! She is awesome!!! It was the 1st time in years!!! We really aren't doing much, she's totally in tune with the spirit and knows what she needs to do. It's incredible. I sat by her in church and could feel it touching her. It was crazy. She's totally a tender mercy from the Lord.
Ok so I really don't have much else to say. Missionary work. Is great. I love my companion. I'll send you some pictures :) Ok love you all byeeeee!!!!!

We were at taco bell and E. Bird gave Sister Hafen and I some hot sauce. He's crazy!

Gotta send this letter MEOW!

HI!!!! HELLO! So. Yes. I told you last week that I would get some better stories for ya and now I'ma bout to deliver! It. The funny stories. Not that all missionary work is funny but those are my favorite to talk about :)
SO Wednesday we had the best zone training of my life! Well it was pretty close. In the top 5 ;) We talked about FEARLESS FINDING! Which was great because I'm pretty fearful when it comes to finding. So we talked about it and came to the conclusion that the worst thing that could happen while finding is you could die. But that's ok because you'd go to heaven. But the best thing that could happen while finding is that some one accepts, get's baptized and goes to heaven. So we concluded that it doesn't really matter because either way someone gets to go to heaven! WOO! :) We applied that later in the week when Sister Hafen was afraid to knock a door she thought she had already knocked, and I said, what's the worst thing that could happen? Well it turns out that the girl was really nice and helped us find the Less active we were looking for! Woah! Anyways. back to the training. We then had a training at our training where the they had some missionaries set up in rooms who were supposed to be mean and reject the other missionaries. Then there were some missionaries designated to be the "Holy Ghost" to uplift the other missionaries in between rejections. I was the spirit between a Marine missionary and Elder Bird (First of all let me introduce you to Elder Bird. He serves in the same wards as Sister Hafen and I and is socially a little slow. But he's hilarious. He's really smart and likes to make up numbers and spouts a lot of facts. He has a bit of a speech impediment but I love the guy) Ok so First set of missionaries knock on Elder Jone's door and he yells at them and tells them to get off his freakin property. I tell them it's ok keep going you're great God loves you. He just wasn't prepared. Go knock on the next door. Well it's this pretty overweight kid knocking and Elder Bird was told to be as mean as he could so he Opens the door and says, "Hello Fatty, what do you want." President Bell was standing next to me and I about died laughing. Elder Bird kept saying the most inappropriate things! He was hitting on the sisters, called someone the N word and calling people ugly and all sorts of mean things! He was taking his job very seriously! We had to tell him to calm it down! haha! He's hilarious! Anyways. The training was cool because the last door knocked was someone who accepted and it was really powerful overall. But after the meeting Sister Hafen and I were so pumped to find!

Ok I'm running out of time! I always do this to myself! ;) haha! So HIGHLIGHTS:

Met a less active named Roxy who is AWESOME!!!! But she lives with her girlfriend. She told us she knows what she's doing is wrong and she wants to change but she doesn't want to give up what she has because she's been with the girl for 5 years. :( it's super hard but She totally has such a strong testimony.

Michelle. She's some one that I know I'm here in Manhattan for. She has a learning disability and is bi polar. She was handed off to us from the Elders and is super sweet! She's really slow at reading but we're patient :) A lot of the other missionaries have dropped her because they've said she has no true interest or isn't progressing but they're not giving her enough time and they weren't working with her very well. So we're trying out different things to help her the best we can and we are quitting :) She's so sweet :)

Oh my gosh this weekend was graduation and flip I have never seen so many drunk kids in my life! It was so sad! and pretty scary. By 6pm Sister hafen and I had to leave because people were out partying. Driving was a little sketchy too. College town.

Speaking of fearless finding we found the COOLEST guy ever! I didn't want to knock his door cuz I'm a baby but Sister Hafen was like, LET'S DO IT! We did and He had the best questions. mostly about agency. We can't teach him because he's a guy but hopefully the Elders will help him out :)
Also church was kind of a bummer. We had SO many people committed to go but only one showed up. It was only made better by Elder Bird's comment in Sunday School. We were listing off distracting worldly pursuits. He added to the list, Women. :) Someone was like, Did an Elder just say that? Yes. And it was Birdman :)

Well that's all I got! Have a great week!!! :)
Love,
Sister Herrin

Man-Happen'n

Wowie! What a week!!! I sure have a lot to spill so we'll take it a day at a time:

MONDAY: So at Pday one of the AP's wrote the COOLEST rap about Kansas and Put it to this music part that I made up and we totally made this song!!! IT IS SO COOL! Sick man, it was so sick ;) haha! But really, We spent all of pday working on it and President Bell came in to listen and loved it so much! Sups cool.

TUESDAY: I packed and packed and packed and packed. :) We had a last district lunch and said our goodbyes:( And then said goodbye to Steffanie and Griz. It was really hard, but I didn't even cry! But I spent the rest of the night PACKING! But we got a call from AP Neeley saying that President wanted us to sing our rap at the transfer meeting during lunch and to sing His Hands during the devotional. So ok :) haha!

WEDNESDAY!!!!!: Craziest day of my life! We say goodbye to my sweet Daley family, and head out to the church with all of my stuff in the car and I meet Sister Hafen!!! She's awesome!! Then we had lunch and Elder Neeley and I threw it down! It was so awesome! Really it's the coolest song ever! But after an Elder said that he knew a member close by who has some recording stuff, and that we NEEDED to record the song. Then we had our transfer Devotional, President spoke, and then it was open to testimonies. The spirit was SO powerful!!! It was intense and awesome and oh my gosh I love being a missionary! Well I was feeling prompted to bare my testimony and it was getting close to the end, so I stood up, but then AP Neeley stood up at the same time because we were going to move on and it was really embarrassing ;) But We were moving on to my musical number so I was still overfilled with the spirit and I was having a hard time keeping myself from crying! I'd just been reflecting on how much My Heavenly Father has molded me and how much I've changed and how much I have left to change. So yeah, I got a little choked up during the song. It's fine. But overall it was a great devotional! I had to say a quick goodbye to Sister Gunderson and We headed out with Elder Neeley to quickly record our song. It was so nice of the member to help us out! But we were kind of in a hurry because we had a dinner appointment and a long drive ahead of us and the little old man was so slow. We only took a few takes before we had to leave so hopefully something nice came out of it :) Then it was off to Manhattan!!! Oh Sister Hafen and her old Companion drove their car to Wichita for Transfers and then we just took it back. Easy as that :) And yes, Sister Hafen is great!!! She and her last companion struggled a LOT and it was so hard for her. So we talked a lot on the drive and got to know each other a little. She was kind of closed off at first because she didn't trust her old companion very much at all, but she's warming up to me :) So we get to Manhattan, go straight to dinner with some members who were so sweet and then had ward correlation with the branch. OH YEAH!!! Ok so turns out we're not only over the singles ward, but the family ward Manhattan 1st too! and a little bit of Manhattan 2nd. Because we're the ONLY SISTERS in Manhattan. There are some other sisters in the zone but they're in Junction City which is like an hour away. So we get a lot of refurrals from the Elders. Anyways. We go home to this apartment. Sister Hafen says that Sisters had been living there for like 25 years. WHAT? I know. It was so cluttered. I guess her old companion hated cleaning. And I was like, let's clean! and toss out all of this old junk that's been piling up for years.

OK i'm outta time so I'll highlight: We cleaned the apartment. It felt great :) I also met Natasha who has been meeting with sisters for years and has never been to church or read the Book of Mormon. She's super cute and we committed her to read. Went to campus and drew the Plan of Salvation. Talked to some kids. There weren't very many people there at 4 so it was kind of disappointing. We'll real em in somehow :) AH! Ok really i'm a get kick off this computer! I'll tell you about sunday and Dianne next time! love you byeeeee!!!
