Another!

es, the transfer doctrine is out and I am staying in Rolling Hills Wichita. But my new companion will be.... SISTER MOFFAT!!! I served with her in Manhattan! So we already know each other really well! She was Sister Clerico's companion in the MTC. It's cool. Haha! But that means that my beloved Sister Forsgren is moving out and heading for Lawrence which is the rival College town (KSU) against Manhattan (K-State) So she's basically betraying me. HAHA! Just kidding I don't care about sports :) But this upcoming transfer should be good!
Sister Forsgren has been seeing the chiropractor for the last few days which has been fun. The Doctor's a member from her first ward and they're really good friends. So we had fun and chatted a lot while he adjusted my compy. We actually have an appointment today in like 30 minutes so my time's a little short. AGAIN. This whole time management thing is rough.
As far as the work goes, Not so eventful. Balinda and Mariah didn't come to church AGAIN. We're a little worried about them. Our wonderful faithful fellowship is kind of taking over. We went to visit them at the beginning of the week only to find out that our fellowship had already taught Balinda about temples and Baptism for the dead. Which is cool because temples are great, but we'd be more comfortable if we were the ones teaching... ya know? The mantle, being set apart, all really important to teaching. But she's such a great support for Balinda and completely needed. That's how it should be! But it'd be nice if we got more of a word in here and there. Soooo pray for them please! And pray for me that I can know how to help them progress.

We went tracting a LOT trying to find new investigators and no luck. Well yes luck but no one super solid just yet. We walked through the ghetto trying to find people to talk to, and there are just so many Catholics here! Life is rough. Speaking of rough we saw this huge fake dog in some lady's yard so we took a picture:
I still can't find my glasses. I feel like I'm not a hipster anymore and am having a bit of an identity crisis ;) haha! JOKES! But really Seeing is hard work! We sang For the Beauty of the Earth in sacrament meeting and I had to have my own copy of music to basically hold to my face so I could see the words. MORE BLIND THAN I THOUGHT I WAS. It's ok I'll keep praying. While you're praying for me might as well pray that I find my glasses too ;) haha!

We had a miracle Sunday last night though! MIRACLE SUNDAYS! They're the best! So basically the whole week was discouraging and we weren't motivated to do ANYTHING. But the last 3 hours of Sunday we just went out and TALKED TO PEOPLE. More like people were out for us to talk to! Sawwweeet! We met this neat lady named Christi who's moving in a few weeks so we'll see if we can't get the fire burning and then pass her off :)

Anywho I'm seriously out of time. Sorry I didn't respond individually to anyone but we got to GO! Ok LOVE YOU!
-Sister Herrin

Cold. My Toes are Cold!

HIII!
SO to start out the email. It was a pretty rough week. BAD NEWS. Jennifer got scared and isn't talking to us as much. She did the whole we appreciate your visits and praying with us, BUT... lots of excuses. Seriously we could not get a straight reasonable reason for why she doesn't want to move forward. We're worried that she might have been anti'd. But her girls still LOVE us! We "were in the neighborhood and really had to use the bathroom" So we stopped by and Jennifer was "asleep" But the rest of the family was really excited to see us. So we're going to keep working with them, but we're going to slow down. Sad day :(

Really though after that we had a hard time recovering. We helped the activity day girls memorize the 7th article of faith and afterword's I asked a member if she'd take us out for hot chocolate. We did and we had a nice uplifting chat :) Warmed us from the inside out :)

OH. BY THE WAY. It's FREEZING HERE!!! But really! We were without the car this week. Seriously the minute we gave the keys to the elders last Monday the temperatures DROPPED. So we've been bundling and biking and living off of hot chocolate :)

Balinda and Mariah are still doing SO well! We are so excited for them! We saw them almost every day this week and had some great lessons with them! So many tears! Balinda's husband bill is really sick and got phenomena Saturday and was admitted to the hospital. We drove out to east side of town with a member to visit them, and the Elders gave Bill a blessing. SO MUCH SPIRIT! We're really hoping that his heart will soften and that he will be willing to learn more and investigate for himself :)

Well dears I am out of time!

WAIT!!!! I almost forgot! Duh! We had a Big mission meeting with Elder Schwitzer from the 70! And we're basically best friends ;) haha! Just kidding, but he did ask me to role play with him a baptismal invite and there was no way that I could've said no to that man. The love of Christ was in his eyes. SO COOL. So yeah, learned a LOT.

Ok really my companion's giving me the look.
LOVE YOU ALL BYE!!!!

-Sister Herrin

Muricul!

heeELLLOO!!!!! :)
OH WOW! Really folks, this week has been SO great! I tell ya.
Miracle number one:
Balinda and Mariah. I'm not sure If I've talked about these two ladies before, but they are GOLDEN! Mariah is 12 and Balinda is her Grandma. They are from Oklahoma and they want to be baptized on December 24th. So the very first time that I met Balinda, she was basically trying to drop us saying that she just didn't think she would ever be a Mormon and  Mariah wouldn't even come out to see us. Not so promising. BUT! about 2 weeks ago we FINALLY taught the plan of salvation. They both just soaked it in. Balinda has a bit of a learning disability and didn't quite understand everything but Mariah is really good at summarizing what we say for her grandma :) We came back a few days later and Balinda told us that she and Mariah read the Plan of Salvation pamphlet together and prayed to know if it was true. She told us that Mariah knew it was true and that "they had to do this together" SO GREAT! Their hearts just OPENED! Well last Saturday we helped them move to a new place just around the corner.
(Quick side story: Balinda and Mariah were found because they stopped Sister Forsgren and her last companion from knocking on this sex offender's house. Well the new place they were moving into was right behind said offender's house. We had been going around his place to walk stuff over when he came out to let us walk through his yard to save time. I noticed he was wearing a white tee shirt.. and it looked very familiar...... PLOT TWIST. It was a garment top..... excommunicated????)
ANYWAYS. After moving everything the elders gave Balinda a blessing to help her quit smoking and that's when Mariah told us that they wanted to get baptized on the 24th of December! It was so spiritually and we were all tearing up! PLUS! The 24th is conveniently Noche Blanca which we did last year where the mission invites everyone to be baptized on Christmas eve so we can have a white night in Kansas! So we're supper stoked!
Miracle number two:
Jennifer and her girls: Jennifer is the mom lady that we found last week by awkwardly helping her move. SHE IS ELECT. I'm telling you this girl is so in tune with the spirit. We had such a good lesson on Thursday. We talked about her life, her worries, problems, and other concerns and we connected so well. After we recited Joseph Smith's first vision she said that her swelled. Then she started to cry. The spirit just hit her so hard and she really needed it in her life. SO. we invited her to a church tour for Saturday night and we went on splits with some of the young women for a stake activity. I got stuck going to dinner, but got to talk to the wife's less active husband. I was just all over the place. The poor young women thought I was crazy. I hope she still wants to serve a real mission ;) BUT Sister Forsgren had the church tour with Jennifer and her two daughters (Katie 12 the Marissa 9) and pretty much it was amazing, there were tears, and now Jennifer and Marissa are going to get baptized on the 29th of November!!! WOO!!! SO INCREDIBLE. Katie is apprehensive but I'm confident that after going to mutual and making friends her heart will soften. But man the church is TRUE!!!!
Well basically that was the week. God is good. Life is good. The book is blue the gospel's true.
OH! We had dinner with our neighbors Cj and Alex. More tears. and lots of beer. Cj likes beer a lot. They're really good people though and are going places :)
I lost my glasses :'( I CAN'T READ STREET SIGNS! :( I'm still praying and looking... sucks to suck.
Alright friends I love you so much!!! have a great week!!!

Just another Week in the Heartland

Hola mi familia! Guess what? I'm basically out of time for emails. Oops :) I've been very distracted. We don't do our emails at the library her in Wichita. There's a family history library in our building so it's less intense and way easier to just talk to all the missionaries and not pay attention to your time. So my bad. I will work on that for next time. First off here is picture of my beautiful companion! Da da da DAAA!

SISTER FORSGREN! I've been spelling her name wrong this whole time. It's en not in. Sorry sister.

We had a pretty crazy week though. My compy was sick and what not. But we were still able to see miracles and find some pretty rockin peeps.

I think my favorite thing about rolling hills is the members. They are fantastic and just love their missionaries so much! I don't think I've ever felt as welcomed as I have here. It's a dream.

Ok I'm sorry my email have been so short and lacking but I promise next week we will have some crazy stories for you! Mainly it's my year mark Thursday and there will be fire. WOOOO! :) Ok I love you all so much! Have a great week and remember how precious everyone is to our Heavenly Father. Go and make someone's day!
Love,
Sister Herrin

Slight Change of Scenery

HI! I'm in Rolling Hills Wichita and LOVING IT! My companion is super great! Sister Forsgrin! We're already besties. Easy.

I wish I had pictures for you but I forgot my cord so double the pictures next week!!!
Tuesday I spent most of the day saying goodbye to everyone. Roxy was sooo sad to see me leave. She said that I was like the angel who came down to Alma the younger and brought him back to the church. It was so sweet! But then I rebuked her and told her to flippen go to church! haha! With love of course :) I just hope that she can keep up the faith. She and Sister Call didn't click as well.

Gosh I miss Sister Call like crazy! Even though we were together for only a transfer it felt like we'd been comps the whole time! But she's training in good old Manhattan, so life is good :) ALSO! Sister Gunderson, my dear child, IS FINALLY TRAINING! Which makes me a Grandma!! It feels so nice to finally have some posterity! haha!

But I already love so many of the members and investigators in Wichita! It's crazy how you can just go from one area to the next and it still feels like home :)

Well I'm out of time but it's been a great week and I'm really excited to get know the area! I hope you all have a good one! Keep me in your prayers!

Love,
Sister Herrin

Manhattan - I'm leaving Manhattan

TRANSFER DOCTRINE IS IN: I'm finally moving!!!!!! To Wichita.... again.... But it's in a different zone and on the complete other side of Wichita so it should be an adventure :) And my Companion will be Sister Forsgren who is the bomb! Love her already! So life should be good! and fun! There will just be a LOT of packing :) lots of it. I have a ton of stuff.

I already said goodbye to Patricia and Samuel. They're the bee's knees and I'm going to miss them so much! They promised to send pictures of the baby when she comes in a few weeks :)
They now have two kittens and Samuel finally finished the Baby's room. So cute! They're going to be fantastic parents. I will miss them :(

But we had a pretty darn good week! Numbers wise. Emotional health wise... haha I've seen better days. But despite my weaknesses the Lord provided many miracles and We were able to see his hand extended.

Well my mind is drawing a blank for much else that happened this week, but I have a nice picture so that should make up for the short email right? right.
LOVE YOU ALL!!! :)

A "Generally" Good Week

HelllOOOOOOO! Wowie what a great way to start off the week by having a personal conference with the Prophet himself!! He's the best and I love him.
So the Zone Lords wanted to have a fall festival with just the missionaries right before conference which is just fancy talk for pumpkiny junk food for breakfast. haha! Sister Call made some fantastic Pumpkin logs with cream cheese filling, and I made homemade Caramel. It's all I know how to make. But we got up Sunday morning to share our spoils and the zone leaders weren't even there! haha! It was still fun though, one of the elders, Elder Kartchner was freaking out and had a special fall tie to go with our fall food. He's nuts :) He's the one with the huge smile :)

Anywho we had three people show up to the Saturday morning Session including Patricia and Samuel. It was so cool because seriously President Uchtdorf's talk adressed all of Samuel's concerns. But Samuel's a huge but and was like, your German guy was wrong, the Myans would have believed us if we told them about space. haha! No Samuel. You missed the whole message! We'll keep trying.
The other girl that was there was Lagina. She's 18 and is super sweet! She stayed for both Saturday Sessions and took notes the whole time! It was so legit! She even commented in when 2Nephi 2:13 was quoted that she had just read that! It was wonderful. We have high hopes for her!
Well that was mostly our week. Not much else. But it was a good one at that! I hope you all had a great week as well! Continue to pray for me! And Mackenzie! She's quitting coffee and it's a tough one to beat! Love you all!

Carl and Other Critters

o our friends at Habitat for Humanity love us. We volenteer there every week. They bragged about us to their big boss guy because we are such good helpers :) Well we were there on a Wednesday helping sort out donations and we found the CUTEST little tree frog. I was in LOVE. His name's Carl and we're best friends. But Sister Call made me put him back in the forest :( sad day. I bemoaned him all day to her. I MISS CARL! Best five minutes of my life.

So we had a fairly good week. :) It was great. It was really nice :) Monday night we jousted with swimming noodles for FHE. Fun stuff :) Then we had all of our appointments fall through on Tuesday Carl on Wednesday and Nicolle's wedding on Thursday! Yes by the way. Our very favorite member Nicolle got HITCHED! She found out she was getting married last Saturday and got married to him Thursday. In the relief society room. It was beautiful for being thrown together :) She was just so happy! And I was so happy for her.
Friday was a good day. We met with this awesome girl named Mckenzie. She's super sincere and prepared! We met with her last week and gave her a tour of the institute and taught the restoration. Then this week we met in a coffee shop and should've taught the word of wisdom, but it would've been awkward and I chickened out :) But she still hasn't come to church :( LAME. But we're praying and hoping that she will be touched :)
Oh! nother story!!! So we went to see Patricia and Samuel Saturday and they have the SOFTEST bunny alive. But the bunny has been hiding lately and was pretty anti social. They were both pretty tired of the thing. It wouldn't even let them pick him up. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. I snuck into the bunnies room, lured it close to me, and SNATCH. Bunny is mine! Just as soft as ever and wasn't kicking at all! He loved me! Thus I then became the bunny whisperer. Patricia was so jealous. I didn't want to put him down and was worried that it might be distracting to our lesson, but the Lord works in mysterious ways. Terra their anti religious roommate that usually ignores us couldn't ignore the bunny in my lap and stayed the whole lesson! She even commented every now and then! I need me a tracting bunny. Mom. It's a good idea.

Well I'm out of time. Love you all! LIFE IS GOOD GOD IS GOOD! :)

HELLO! I got attacked by a crazy cat yesterday. Sister Call was really bugging Roxy's mean cat and he was getting so stressed out! So he flipped out. On me. Hahaha! It was actually really funny. Cats.

So we had a really good week this week! We went onto Campus and talk to a ton of people! One of whom is Frances. She' super awesome and we're going to be meeting with her again this Wednesday :) She has a 7 year old brother who wants to study religions and he has a Book of Mormon. NB. There was this other Girl who was on the rowing team and she asked us to explain Jesus for her. I guess she thought that we thought he was a different Jesus. Nope! The same one! The first thing I did was show her his name on my name tag.

Sister Call's been teaching me Brazilian Jiu Juitsu :) Haha! She's really good at it, and I'm really good at tapping out. But I've almost mastered my shrimping technique :) Which is just basically squirming out from underneath her when she's got me pinned. I'm a good squirmer ;)

We had a really great lesson with Patricia this week. She could pop any day now due to a really crazy roommate. This girl named Tara keeps scaring poor Patricia and it's causing her really bad contractions. She's not due until November but still. Anyways, we just talked about God and how much he loves her and wants her to be happy. It was super powerful and I almost cried. She's an awesome individual and is really sensitive to the spirit.

Sunday was a little rough. Sister Call and I were sooo tired. We were snoozing all through our 6 hours of church! Ouch! We really just needed a nice Sunday nap. But nope! We're missionaries :) So we powered through and visited a couple of less actives.

OK MY TIME IS OUT! LOVE YA'LL!

Love,
Sister Herrin

We had a zone training this tuesday and Sister Call and I decided to match :)

Transfers! Old Friends!

And I'm a Mormon

Heeeyyyyy.... :) Howdy! Well.
We had a... It was good. Yes. We had a pretty good week :) haha! Not as magical as last week but still pretty good :) Not going to lie, It's been a little stressful. Part of it is because Missionaries really like to give commitments. Especially to other missionaries. And I've probably received a good 15 plus commitments this week from various missionaries. Don't ask me what any of them are because I didn't write any of them down. I would make an awful investigator :) haha!

Anywho we had transfers this week and boy that was a treat!!! I got to see all of my previous companions except for Sister Gunderson! So sad to have missed her but I got everyone else :) It was so nice :) I sat at a table with Sister Barlocker and Sister Hafen! :)

Besides that not much has happened. OH! I have this new companion named Sister Call! And we are already great friends! So we've got the comp unity thing down :) We had a branch activity Friday and we were playing kick ball. Well she runs for the ball and totally biffs it! She did like a roll thing and just flashed the whole branch because her skirt went flying! haha! Super awesome first impression :) But now her arm's a little sore... I'm taking good care of her though :) And now everyone in the branch knows she's a Mormon.

The Elders that serve in the same ward as us are both new, so I feel like this week has just been a lot of planning and correlating. Not too exciting really :) But I'm still having a grand ol' time and loving being a missionary! Life is good! God is good! :)

Griz! Dun Dunked!

Well. I wasn't there, but I sure helped! And wow I've got tears in my eyes just thinking about how much I love this guy! Griz is the name Grizzly Racobs :) Sister Phadnis my trainer did get to go, and said it was so great! So yay! things are great! :)

And besides that I don't know if I have much to say! We had a good week. We talked to Patricia and Samuel and gosh I love them. They're doing great and will be baptized in no time at all :)
Also we saw Roxy! She's doing well too! I don't know what else to say :)

So I'll just leave it at that, and I hope you all have a super week!!

Love,
Sister Herrin

Kansas City

Well Howdy! Life is great isn't it? We had a crazy awesome fun packed week! It was an emotional roller coaster! WOW.
The Highlight was the TEMPLE! It was a dream come true. We took a really big bus to Kansas City and had a very uplifting party the whole time.
Then inside the temple was incredible! It was just so beautiful! We just cried. Seeing everyone in white was so special. As I walked into the Celestial room President and Sister Bell greeted me and welcomed me in, and I were surrounded by my missionaries. My friends and brothers and sisters. I was just overwhelmed with Christ-like love for everyone in there.
You know I had been struggling a lot this week and I was really expecting to have an emotional spirit crying experience and to just feel relief. But it was interesting that I just felt satisfaction in where I was, and in what I was doing. I had the best support group in the world and they all loved me too.

So it was good :) A really great lesson for me!

We had a lot of meetings and didn't get to seeing a whole lot of people. But Patricia and Samuel came to church! He is opening up so much!

Ok that's all I got. I'm out of time. But I love you all and hope you have a great week!!! :)

Sister Herrin

Hairy Bellies!

Well would you look at that! It's already been another week! This last one flew by!!! It was great though! You know it's funny but I feel like I exhausted all my resources this week and was having an out of body experience. Oh there I am being a missionary. But in spite of my wacko dysfunctionings we finally hit standard. Which I haven't been able to do my whole time with Sister Clerico. So the Lord totally works through the weak and imperfect :)
Also I got sick Saturday and have been coughing and sniffling all weekend. 6 hours of church was almost too much. I just crashed when we finally got home! haha! Poor Sister Clerico! We still went out and worked afterwords. Speaking of! Crazy story! So we got a call from this lady named Sue brown who we'd never met before saying that she had picked up this homeless boy and was wondering if the church could help. Well we went over to assess the situation. It was downtown in this basement apartment. Super trashed. This short wrinkled lady with tattoos and men's clothing takes us downstairs. She is a member of the church. We didn't have her on our records. We walk into the kitchen and there's this young guy sitting at the table. He said I didn't know there were three heavens! There was a giant Book of Mormon on the table and it looked like Sue had been teaching the kid. We gave them some information and a couple of phone numbers and told them to give us a call if they needed anything else. Then out comes sue's boyfriend. He's this HUGE hairy man with no shirt and his warn jeans struggling to stay around his waist. He was really nice :) Well before we leave Sue gave us each bear hugs and asks us to visit her again soon. I think we will :)

We met with Sabrina a few times as well! We had a movie night and watched The Testaments. Classic! But she wasn't able to come to church again this week so we have to push back her date again. So we're working with it :) Keep praying though!

Ok I've got five minutes!
We haven't been able to get a hold of Jackie yet but we're planning on stopping by soon
I'm too rushed! I can't think of anything else that happened this week. It was great I promise! :)
Well I love you all! Have a great week!
Love,
Sister Herrin

Nine months and still growing!

Missionary Purpose Fulfilled and Nine Months in!!!

We got kicked out of an apartment complex this week. That means we're good missionaries :)
Actually two college girls from management came up to us with their sun glasses and attitude and told us we could only be there if we had an appointment. Well we did, But it fell through! So we knocked some door on our way down and talked to everyone we saw! :) No big! But she said there was no soliciting. We told her we weren't selling anything, and she gave us a dirty look and said it was the same thing. We rebuked her and told her to repent and that she would meet her maker soon! Just kidding, we just left, but still it was a good day :)

I got really sunburned on Saturday. It was HOT! We volunteered at this Christian sponsored self help fair thing. It was super cool! There were a lot of people from different churches and there were classes on budgeting, health care stuff, and nutrition. It was pretty neat! There was a bouncy house for the kids, that of course the missionaries were in charge of :) We haaaad to test it out first to make sure it was safe. We had bike shorts on so it was ok :) I totally kicked sister Judy's missionary booty! :) However after it all I somehow ended up with a fat lip and a skidded elbow :)

We had a lot success this week too! We invited people like crazy to be baptized! We now have 4 on date!!! :D well technically two. Sabrina didn't come to church and we haven't reset her date yet, and Patricia's isn't until Novemeber 1st after she gets married so it doesn't count numbers wise just yet. But it's basically the same :) We have Laura, who we've been meeting with for a while who's on date for the 30th. Her family's all members, and she grew up in young women's, but she doesn't understand what she needs Jesus for. We've told her but it hasn't really sunken in yet. But she accepted a date, and we're working on it! :)

Now Jackie. Jackie's new :) She's a crazy pants but we love her :) The Elders found her Saturday night and invited her to be baptized on the 23rd and she said yes! So we called her up that night talked for a half hour about how we shouldn't judge gays and that God still loves them, and she agreed to come to church with us. Well she's 18, just graduated, got kicked out of her Grandparents house because her parents are meth heads and something about her grandpa being abusive to her grandma and her grandma blaming her. I'm not entirely sure, but she was very open about it all. So she's got a hard life. But she's living with a friend, and we picked her up Sunday to come to church with us. She was wearing bootie shorts and a really low top. We took her with us anyways and gosh just loved her! She' a little loud and vulgar, but I think she'll come around soon :)

Well Wednesday was my official hump day! WOOO! NINE MONTHS DOWN! :) It's been a crazy ride that's for sure! I have been so so blessed so far and am so grateful for all the support I've had from my family and friends and from my Heavenly Father and Savior. I feel like a completely different person. Maybe not on the outside (besides the extra pounds) But definitely on the inside.
I have a LOOOOONG ways to go and so much to improve on, but I'm grateful for the strength that I've had this far :) I love being a missionary. I love Kansas. And I love my Savior so much. I really feel like I will be my biggest convert. I'm am continually being converted everyday :)

Well I hope and pray that this will be a good week for all of us!!! Peace and blessings!
Love,
Sister Herrin

So missionaries are weird and have to take a pregnant picture at nine months. It's a thing. Yes that's Ice cream.

I'm a Missionary!

WOW! What a week! I didn't budget my time very well again! whoops! So we're going to go through this real fast here:

I got a bloody knuckle from knocking doors all day :) Best missionary accomplishment ever!

Met the sweetest old lady (Sister Crump) at a nursing home. She's LA and really old, but she loves the sisters. When we came in she started to cry and kissed us all on the cheek. She was holding our hands and wouldn't let go! It was hard to say goodbye.

For pioneer day we ate with some members and they cooked us hamburgers in a frying pan. The middle was still raw when you bit into them. I felt so sick afterwords! Whoa! I bet the pioneers did it all the time :)

Ok really the best part of the week was Saturday and Sunday. We talked to Roxy who didn't move to Wichita! They decided to stay because, well they couldn't find an apartment, and really nothing was working out for them there. They've been evicted and Roxy's living at the shelter and her girlfriend Alyssa's with her mom. Well we've taught a few lessons to Sabrina, Alyssa's little sister, and we invited her to church. She seemed really excited and Roxy totally was ready to take on the member role! So Sunday comes and they're 45 minutes late to church. But they came all the same :) haha! We had a great day went to young woman's with Sabrina (she's 15) We had invited her to baptism before but she said she was afraid of drowning. So we go to show her the font after church. There's a bunch of old guys talking in the room with the font. So we take the back way. And standing in the font we invited her to be baptized on august 9th. SHE SAID YES!!! So we are super pumped about that!
:)
Wow sorry I'm so rambley! I feel like I have so much more to tell you but I'm out of time.
Until next week!!!
Love,
Sister Herrin
P.s we found 3 new investigators!!!! :D

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

So totally meant to send you this Really short really lame email last week:

WOW! SORRY! I have like ZERO time to write! So many people loved me and emailed me today! Life is good God is good! :)

So here's the quick version. flippen awesome week.
Had a bomb lesson with Patricia. She's pregnant and her husband's an atheist :) But gosh the spirit is a powerful thing! We had a perfect team up and it was just a perfect lesson. Except she didn't accept baptism invite so we'll work on that for next time :)

4th of July was awesome! We Had a flag raising thing with the ward in the morning and met this cool less active borderline anti member named Kabu :) He's from Montana :) He had a lot of serious questions but seemed to like our response so he invited us over for dinner Sunday. Super nice guy. Just an overly deep thinker. Later we had a lunch with some members in between the world cup which was delish. And to finish it off we went to a branch bbq! Fun filled day! No fireworks for us, but boy could we hear them all night long!

Then basically we worked and worked and tried to find someone to baptize! Our mission has a goal of 75 baptisms for the month of July so we're working really hard to do our part. So we'll see how that pans out :)

We had a fantastic dinner with Kabu last night and rode our bikes everywhere. Gosh it's hot. I've never sweated so much in my life! So much sweat. I think people are scared of us ;) haha!

Ok sorry to cut it so short! I'm doing great! Keep praying for me! Sister Clerico and I need it! :) Love you all!!!!
-Sister Herrin

But my computer kicked me off before I could send it. So SORRY! :)
Ok watch out! This week was super crazy fantastic! Murcles all the day long. So we had Zone Conference which was flippen awesome! We all got super pumped. They also handed out the mission CD which is so cool! We have so many talented Elders and Sisters!

Anywho. Right after zone conference we went on EXCHANGES!!! They were so awesome! We have the best STL's and I'm so grateful for them! I went to Salina Kansas. Super Kansasy place :) haha! But we had an awesome lesson with this lady and she accepted baptism! Super great experience!

SO HERE'S THE MIRACLE! We're back together again and are on our way to see Patricia. Sister Clerico is feeling out of sorts and has a mini break down before the lesson. We say a prayer and we're trying to teach the plan of salvation. We've never done that together before so it was super rough. BUT the spirit took over and Patricia opened up to us a lot! And we were all teary eyed by the end of it! We re-invited her to baptism and she said YES! :D We were on cloud nine!!! It was a super great day!

We have just been slaying it! We Finally got in touch with this other Girl that we ran into like a month ago named Kat. She is so solid! She's looking for a church and really wants to be closer to God. She's a College Senior and is just super cute. We brought the best member with us and they really hit it off. So she's coming to FHE tonight and we're excited to she where she goes :)

Also, ROXY! She's been way more in touch lately! We taught her girlfriend's little sister the Plan of Salvation and she seems to like it a lot. She's only 15 and her home life is a nightmare. So we don't know if she'll be moving with Roxy to Wichita or not, but we hope we can help find something to lean on (the gospel)

BUT SUNDAY WAS GREAT!!! Roxy came to church! and then so did Patricia! The only down part was that we found outSunday that Patrica's Husband isn't her husband yet. whoops! She just calls him that because it's easier? haha! So Law of chastity problems. NBD. We have to set her date back so she won't be baptized in July. We're hoping to have a wedding soon though. I can do the Flowers :)

It's been a great week! Thank you so much for your prayers! I can really feel them paying off :) Keep it up! :) Always can use more :)
HAVE A GOOD WEEK!

Sister Herrin

Time Mis-Managed

No letter from Sister Herrin this week.  But a wonderful member, Sister Judy, sent this my way via Facebook!  I love missionary moms - they just get it!  We love you Sister Kansas!

June 30, 2014 - Chiggers!

I have a very strong dislike for bugs. So do my legs. I've never itched so much in my life. It's great.
I used to freak out when there were bugs on me. Now it happens like everyday and doesn't phase me much. Like we go home to change. Oh there was a spider in my shirt? No big. Wow that thing was in my shoe? I hope he was uncomfortable while I was walking around all day. NBD. But yeah. I have 4 chigger bites that have swollen up to the size of plumb. They itch like they work for satan. I they're pretty common for everyone else here but yeah, I need me some bug spray.
Speaking of bugs! We went hiking for Zone P-Day last Monday. I know hiking in Kansas. I laughed too. But they have some pretty nice hill and trails to walk here so it was fun :) But I did get a tick. It was a living nightmare. After we got him out of my leg I took the pleasure of escorting him to the toilet where I dangled him and taunted him before flushing him. I love all of God's other creatures. :)

Well not a whole lot happened missionary work wise this week. We decided to help get the members pumped and so we're going to try to meet with as many as we can and teach them how to USE preach my gospel. So there was a lot of planning :)
We did however find this super awesome atheist couple. Well he's atheist. Patricia and Samuel. They've got a baby on the way! Her name will be Aphrodite. So we'll see how that all goes! We met with them Saturday and got to know them and introduced the Book of Mormon. They seemed pretty interested. Patricia more than Samuel, but we'll see how they progress :)
OH! and we finally met with Michelle again! She set up a blanket outside for us to talk and her neighbor Amgad from Egypt came out! He's super cool! Talked to us for the rest of the time! But we had to kind of cut it short because Michelle started to take on the member present role even though she's not a member and started by bringing up polygamy. haha! So we tied it up and got onto talk about the Godhead when she throws out How Lehi is the father, and Nephi is the son. He was so confused. Thought we believed in a God named Lehi. He eventually turned to me and said, ok you're the boss. So I had to reexplain everything without bluntly saying ignore everything that Michelle is saying right now :) haha! It was good.
I can't think of anymore exciting things that have happened this week. OH! the Elder's met a man named Hector who later texted them admitting that he wasn't really interested in their message but he was really attracted to them. Awkward. :)
Ok that's all I got! LOVE YOU ALL! Pray for miracles!

June 23 - My Dad Taught Me How to Ride a Bike

Yay bike week! So it's been a perdy crazy week. (understatement) Well not crazy as in crazy things happening. Maybe more like stressful and Miraculous :)
I bought a bike. It's beautiful. I am in love :) It's not girlie old fashion, but classy. She's a classy lady. kind of cheep but You wouldn't know it if you didn't know anything about bikes :) haha! The whole bike buying process was NUTS! So Sister Judy (from IF) is training Sister Clerico's MTC companion. So when we get together it's like the ol' gang's together again. :) We went to Walmart and we were there from like 2-5. The new missionaries were so excited and wanted to get everything in Walmart. Sister Judy and I just watched lovingly. Then we took another hour to buy bikes. It was great! ;) hahaha!
That night Roxy came to FHE! We made mini pizza's and just talked. We introduced her to like everyone! She kind of seemed overwhelmed, but she's a trooper :)

Wednesday we visited her again. This whole time her girlfriend was out of town so we had made a plan to talk to her about her spiritual goals. Well when we got there she totally had a hang over :( She said that she had broken up with Alyssa Tuesday over text, and then she'd lost her job at taco bell that morning. So she got drunk. And we were like, Roxy! This is your chance! The Lord is opening doors for you and you need to take them! She seemed pretty tired and was just really angry. We left hoping when Alyssa came home that night that she wouldn't cave in. Next day we ran into them downtown and she'd caved in. They'd talked things out and were moving to Wichita. I was pretty ticked haha!Sister Clerico just kept saying that the Lord recalculates! He'll make another path for her.

Also this week has been SO hot. I don't think I've ever sweated so much in my life! It is so humid! I just always feel sticky and stinky and gross. I LOVE KANSAS :) haha! It's a fun change. for sure. But helped a family move in Wednesday Afternoon. Gosh everyone was drenched!

So the work lately has been pretty rough. President called all the missionaries in Manhattan to let us know that Manhattan will be the highest baptizing zone in the mission because of the people coming in and out. In to be baptized. Out to be saints. Super inspiring! So we're cleaning out our teaching pool and just FINDING as much as we can!
OOO 5 minutes left!
-It was hard finding people!
-Saturday and Sunday were miracles! 2 new investigators! Came to church!
Roxy came to church! We taught her and her GF and GF's little sister the 1st Lesson! so awesome!
Little sister might get baptized!
I spoke in church about the hastening and the gathering of Israel and the second coming! WHOA!
ok that's all I got! I love you all so much! Keep loving the Lord!
Have a blessed day!
Love Sister Herrin

My Baby "C"!

Sister Clerico

HI! wowie wow! This has been a fairly stressful week. no joke. Sister Hafen and I spent most of Saturday packing and saying goodbye to people. I was so sad to see her leave. But it's all for the best I guess :) We got a mysterious call Monday night from none other than my favorite Sister Gunderson! WHAT? President Bell asked her to sing for Transfers and said she could ask other Sisters to sing with her. She asked if she could call me and he gave his approval! YAY! So yeah, It was supper great to hear from her! We sang More Holiness Give Me, and she arranged it all cool cuz she's talented that way :) But transfers were crazy!!! We drove over two hours to Wichita and it was crazy! President Bell wanted Elder Neeley to sing our Kansas song together again and we had a mini talent show during lunch. There are so many musical missionaries in our mission! We're getting a CD together so that'll be cool :) anywho, So also crazy part with it was that the new sisters that we're going to be in the Manhattan 2nd ward were driving up with us. And they're whitewashing the area, plus training. OH! It's Sister Ashley Judy who is also from Idaho Falls. We're besties :) But I drove another 2 hours home and was soo tired. We had an appointment with Becca and Sister Clerico invited her to be baptized! She said yes! :) But she's in the 2nd ward boundaries so we had to give her to the 2nd sisters. Sad Day. Then we unpacked. It was a flippen long day!!
The next few days were just full of driving the other Sister's around and giving them our best investigators so we didn't get much work put in ourselves. It was pretty lame. Sister Clerico was so excited to get out and work, but we didn't really get a lot of time to. Sad day. She's super awesome though! I love her! She's pretty nerdy, but so am I :) We're gonna get along just fine :)

The only really productive thing that we did do was visit Roxy. We had a fantastic visit! She's really getting down that she can change and start now instead of later. She got a really cool blessing from Elder Thompson and I think it helped a TON! She was super motivation to do all sorts of great things :) She was planning on following us around Sunday and coming to all 6 hours of church with us. But we showed up and she wasn't home. We're guessing she got called into work or something. Bummer. haha! That pretty much sums up our last 4 days. Bummer man.

Good things are going to happen though I can just feel it. This area was meant for Sister Clerico. We're gonna have a fun week.

We're back to part time car, so you'll be hearing a lot more of my bike adventures, I know you've been really missing those! ;)

Well I love you all and hope you have a great week! :)

Love,
Sister Herrin

I'm Expecting…AGAIN!

.......... So funny story. We're walking up to to are apartment, and Sister Hafen has the mail. She says, we got our Ensign!!! (they usually come in a white envelope sent from the mission office) But weird, it's only addressed to you. I was like oh it's because they know me in Wichita and like me better ;) j/k. But it was weird. And that's when I remembered about 4 months ago when I received a similar envelope in the mail. NO. I ran inside. I frantically opened it and dumped out the contents. Low and behold it was a Twelve week Training booklet. I threw it across the room and shouted NO NO NO!!! hahaha! I was shaking so bad!!! I apologized for my behavior and looked over it a little more. But really I was literally shaking and had to take deep breaths. Talk about panic attack! I had to eat a banana! hahaha! It was pretty funny.
I felt pretty bad that I over reacted and I decided that this time I'm going to love training! And really just have a positive attitude about the whole thing. I've been studying pride and humility lately a LOT. It's pretty cool actually. But I've been reaffirmed in that being humble isn't about thinking about yourself less, it's about thinking less of yourself. Confidence is part of being humble. You HAVE to have confidence that you can do things through the Lord. Because when you say I can't do this or I can't handle that or I'm no good at anything, I, I, I, me, me me! If you don't have faith that you can do what the Lord has asked of you, you're pitting your will against his. That's pride my friends. So. Duh I know but It's really hit me in a new life and I'm going to do all I can to rid myself of pride. Wish me luck :)
We had our training call on Saturday and one of the biggest things that I learned was how important it is to teach by example. That was one of the Savior's main ways of teaching. How many times do we say we're trying to follow his example? it's one of the best ways to help us learn! So I'm really going to have to stretch myself and be the best example I can be.
Well transfers are on Wednesday. I'm staying in Manhattan and my new companion's name is Sister Clerico. That's all I know about her :) But Sister Hafen's leaving me :( I am so sad to see her go. She has been the easiest companion. We got along so well and really needed each other. Not that I didn't like my other companions at all! Trust me I've been blessed. But we just had nothing bottled inside about the other. Nothing! :) But I love her and hope she does well in her next area.
In other news. Like I said in my last letter, we're getting another set of sister's in Manhattan to cover the 2nd ward. Which is great. But we are teaching a LOT of promising people in the 2nd ward. And we have to hand them over :/ They'll still get baptized, I'm just going to miss them is all. Like for example. We're teaching this girl named..... BECCA! :) hahaha! No joke! She's awesome :) We're also teaching a Rebecca, but that's another story.
So Becca is super awesome and super prepared. She just recently found Jesus and we're helping her find a church basically :) Well Saturday night we had the BEST lesson with her. We taught the restoration and The spirit was SOOO strong. She loved it! When we told her about how Joseph Smith was visited by Peter James and John to receive that same priesthood power from God, she was like, Woah, Shiz just got real. Hahahah! It was so funny!!! But she mostly got excited about the book of mormon. like she wanted to tell everyone she new about it! We asked her if she found that the BoM was true if she would be baptized. She was like oh yes of course!!! I've been baptized but not with authority! I wanted to sing I was so happy! :) So yeah, she's great :)
Well I better wrap it up here. I love you! Shout out to little brother Joe going to ORLANDO FLORIDA!! So proud of him :) and My Daddy cuz Father's day is coming up :) Love him too :)
God Bless.

Drop 'em Like It's Hot!

WELL HI! Happy Memorial Day yesterday!!! :D This last week was pretty great. Kind of lame but still Positive. :) haha! I'll just spill it to you now.

Diane. Pope. Precious daughter of God. I don't think I've talked a lot about her but she's a 59 year old lady who looks like she's 80 because she's a heavy HEAVY smoker. She's been on date for baptism for four different dates since March because she just can't quite. She's really sweet. And really poor. She get's a lot of help from the government and a few other sources. She's neighbor's with a member named Janis. Janis is recently returned to the church and is preparing to go to the temple. She's a sweet spunky old lady with a really rough past. She too is trying to quit smoking. Well she says she has but we're not entirely sure. She get's a lot of help from the government AND from the church. Anywho. Diane envy's how much support Janis gets because she's a member and Thinks it's ridiculous how just because she's not a member she doesn't get as much help. So when I came into the story about a month ago She was determined to lie to us about her smoking and get baptized anyways. We're not idiots. We could smell it fresh in the air when we would go over and the spirit was giving us red flags. Plus Janis had told us that Diane told her what her motives were. DRAMA! So we had a super intense/spiritual rebuking lesson about being worthy for baptism and got her to confess the next day. It was crazy. By this point Diane and Janis were really not getting along but Diane was back on date and we were going to help her come unto Christ. Because she seemed to have a sincere desire. Well. The two ladies were calling us claiming that the other was smoking and lying and acting like 14 year old girls. It was so frustrating. So Janis writes Diane a letter saying she needs a brake and we go to visit Diane and she is PEEVED. Because the brake was her idea but now Janis gets the credit. WOW. She was so upset and offended and couldn't believe that a member of the church would do this. We told her time after time that it had NOTHING to do with Janis. This was JESUS CHRIST'S CHURCH. Not Janis's. She didn't listen and dropped us the next day. We were so frustrated because we had done SO much for Diane. Pride.
So yeah. That really sucked. We had a hard time recuperating afterwords. She gave up eternal salvation for pride. Whatever.
But we had exchanges this week and I went out with my grandma Sister Roquemore!!! Crazy right? She's crazy! She just puts herself out there and talks to EVERYONE. It's awesome. She's a super great example for me and it was just what I needed.
Other great news. Roxy came to church!!! She is awesome!!! It was the 1st time in years!!! We really aren't doing much, she's totally in tune with the spirit and knows what she needs to do. It's incredible. I sat by her in church and could feel it touching her. It was crazy. She's totally a tender mercy from the Lord.
Ok so I really don't have much else to say. Missionary work. Is great. I love my companion. I'll send you some pictures :) Ok love you all byeeeee!!!!!
-Sister Hurn
We were at taco bell and E. Bird gave Sister Hafen and I some hot sauce. He's crazy!
Dream team!!! in the rain!!!
